This project was co-designed in collaboration with local residents, the charity Love Brondesbury, and with support from Brent Council. Funding was secured through the Neighborhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) and the Greening Our Space Communities Award.
Brondesbury Villas is a quiet street, bordered by houses on one side and a railway track and a small park on the other. Over time, this small park fell into disrepair, becoming an unwelcoming and intimidating space. We were tasked with transforming it into a vibrant park through community consultations and submissions that guided and shaped the design.
The plan reimagines the park as an immersive landscape, with horticulture at its forefront. The new design includes clearly defined zones, each offering diverse opportunities for social interaction and creative play. The asphalt layers have been replaced with a meandering path of porous, self-adhering gravel, giving it a fresh, natural appearance. The gentle slope ensures unaided wheelchair accessibility. Existing mature trees and hedges have been retained, complemented by a row of newly planted flowering trees as vertical focal points. The diverse planting includes plants selected for their tolerance to drought and urban conditions, providing climbing and sensory experiences through scent, color, and texture.
